Calderfields Hotel, Golf & Country Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Matthew Jupp as their new head greenkeeper.
Matt arrives with a wealth of fine turf knowledge including his latest role of maintaining and presenting award winning Premier League football pitches. Matt is no stranger to Premier venues, as he also played an instrumental part in the construction and development of St Georges Park, Home of the England Football squads in Burton upon Trent.
Matt has not only made his name at top flight football grounds but has also assisted in European Tour course preparation and hosting during the 25th BMW International Open at Eichenried, Germany. Whilst in Germany Matt served for eight years at some of Europe’s top courses including Gut Thailing Golf Club, Munich, and previously at Colne Valley in Colchester.
Matt’s education saw him complete an FDSC in Sports turf science and management at Myerscough College which put him in the driving seat to land some of the best jobs in the industry.
Matt has now settled with a young family in the Midlands and is very excited to start here at Calderfields in February. Upon signing his contract he told the Management “I am excited for a new challenge and a change from my current role. Although I will be leaving the football industry which I have a huge passion for, I cannot wait to get my teeth back into a golf course. With the future plans and investment Calderfields is on the crest of a wave and I could see the huge potential. Just a few minor adjustments will bring significant changes to this growing venue”
To compliment Matt’s arrival Calderfields has also instructed the guidance of consultant, Paul Mytton of Fine Turf Management to aid in the final stages of the Par 3 construction. Paul has been head groundsman at similar stadiums and has also worked on many golf courses and bowling greens around the Country applying his wealth of knowledge to ensure the playing surfaces are top notch.
Calderfields are delighted to have both names on board. Dan Lowe, General Manager said “Neither Covid-19 nor the subsequent Lock downs have given anyone much to shout about, but, both Matt and Paul coming on board have instantly lifted the feeling and atmosphere around the venue. We know we have two big names in the fine turf industry and we have pledged further investment to continue complimenting the new fleet from John Deere were purchased back in March last year to assist the guys in achieving the best we possibly can. I am personally exciting to work with the new appointments to take the golf course on to the next level”
